On Thursday, May 29, the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Foundation (NPCF) held its Annual General Meeting, to reflect on the achievements from 2024 and celebrate 10 years of the Comfort Maple Pen.
The Business portion of the meeting was called to order by Chair, Barbara Greenwood, who opened the meeting with recognition to Marv Ens and the 10-year anniversary of the Comfort Maple Pen.
"As we reflect on the accomplishments of the past year; it is a true honour to recognize the 10th anniversary of the Comfort Maple Pen and celebrate our shared commitment to conservation, heritage, and community. It reminds us of the beauty we are working to protect and the legacy we are building for generations to come.” - Barbara Greenwood, Chair, Niagara Peninsula Conservation Foundation.
"Creating the Comfort Maple Pen has always been about more than wood and ink—it’s about connecting people to the story and the enduring legacy of the Comfort Maple tree. I’m deeply humbled by this recognition and grateful to be part of a movement that values nature, history, and craftsmanship in such a meaningful way." - Marv Ens, wood turner.
The Board of Directors and staff extends heartfelt gratitude to its donors and partners whose contributions make these initiatives possible. Their support enables the NPCF and the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority (NPCA) to continue its vital work in preserving and enhancing the natural environment of the Niagara Peninsula watershed.
The NPCF has approved its 2025 budget, focusing on four key fundraising priorities to support work led by the NPCA: expanding tree planting initiatives and restoring natural habitats, supporting the protection of more land within the watershed, enhancing community engagement, and fostering new partnerships to support conservation efforts.
Key Fundraising Priorities for 2025:
Tree Planting Expansions: Building upon the success of NPCA’s Trees for All program, NPCF aims to support the planting of an additional 80,000 trees over the next four years, contributing to Canada’s 2 billion trees initiative.
Protection of Land: In keeping with NPCA’s strategic plan to expand existing protected spaces, NPCF aims to support continued success in land securement.
Community Engagement: NPCF plans to engage local communities through events such as the International Plowing Match and the Ball’s Falls Thanksgiving Festival. These gatherings will offer opportunities to learn more about NPCA’s conservation activities and environmental education programs.
Partnership Development: The foundation continues to strengthen its network of supporters and partners. Ongoing collaborations with RBC Foundation, Rotary Club, and TD Friends of the Environment are complemented by new partnerships with the Niagara Community Foundation, Ontario Paper Thorold, and Jungbunzlauer Canada Inc. These partnerships are instrumental in advancing NPCF and NPCA’s shared conservation goals.
